Company History

Formed as a separate company in 2008, under the ownership of AMPAC-ISP Corporation, New York, USA, AMPAC-ISP Cheltenham was formerly part of Marotta Controls, Inc. and prior to that a part of Polyflex Aerospace Ltd.

Polyflex Aerospace was formed in 1977 to provide high pressure components and systems to the defence and space industries. The space segment of Polyflex was acquired by Marotta Controls in 2003, and AMPAC-ISP acquired the business in October 2008 as part of the acquisition of Marotta Controls´ European Holdings. The turnover of the business has increased more than six-fold since space operations started in Cheltenham in the mid-1990´s.

In 1996 Polyflex was awarded a UK Government supported contract to enhance and re-qualify high pressure pneumatic missile components for small satellite cold gas propulsion applications. First space flight was achieved in 1999 with supply of Nitrous Oxide propellant management system for a technology demonstrator flown on Surry Satellite´s UoSAT 12 mission.

In 2000 Polyflex acquired the Space Valves product Line of RAUFOSS Technology AB including Check Valves and Fill and Drain Valves. The products and manufacturing technology transferred to UK. These valves supplied to commercial platforms Eurostar 3000, SpaceBus 4000 and ESA science mission platforms METOP SMART-1, Rosetta, GOCE, Cryosat.

In 2003 Polyflex delivered a complete cold gas propulsion system for Cryosat-1. In 2006 Marotta was awarded a contract to build a second system for Cryosat-2.

Our combination of people and infrastructure ensure that we will continue to provide a broad range of high performance, space qualified fluid control products and engineering solutions to the European and International Aerospace markets.
